You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
There are very few reasons not to get 10.6.8 versus 10.6.7. 10.6.7's security for Flash and Java are not up to date, and Java is not up to date anyway, even in 10.6.8, but at least you get better security using 10.6.8.

I update to 10.6.7 and still have a unpleasant with Microsoft word or text editor. When I type text normally then move the cursor by arrow for editting, the strange symbol is disappear now but the word also move follow the nagative direction. Grummmm.
How do I get the previous version from App Store? Or is anyone aware that 10.6.7 broke this for some PCs? My PC has just some self-signed cert and I am pretty sure developers broke something due to this update.
I have been using the older version on my Mac. Updated Mac today and older version just dies upon startup. 10.6.7 will connect to a local machine but not to machines outside my firewall. Typical modern software, what worked yesterday fails today. Because the older one wont come up, I cannot verify the version.

The 10.6.7 update is highly recommended for all current users running Mac OS X Snow Leopard, which includes general OS X system updates that improve the functionality, stability, and security of your Mac. In addition, this update fixes several issues that can cause your Mac computer to stop working. Specifically, the update improves the performance of the Mac browser, specifically the Safari web browser. Furthermore, it also fixes several problems with the Mac memory card, audio issues, and a variety of network errors.
The update is offered as a free upgrade to all users of Mac OS X Snow Leopard, as well as those who purchased a new Mac earlier this year. However, for those who already have Mac OS X Tiger installed on their systems, the update can be accessed through the "Leopard" application. If you're not sure whether or not you have this application, you can easily find it by going to the" Utilities" section in the" Logan" folder on your Mac OS X setup disk, or through the Control Panel if you have multiple versions of Mac OS X installed. Once you have access to the program, you'll be able to download and install the 10.6.7 update.
